Guide for Infusing Career Education into Teacher Education Programs. [Statewide Infusion of Career Education into the Preparation of Teachers, Counselors and Administrators].
Ellingson, James, Ed.
Prepared to provide assistance to college and university staff members in infusing career education into personnel development programs, this guide is based on the experiences of the members of Oregon's Interinstitutional Consortium for Career Education. This document presents a series of guiding principles necessary for program infusion. These principles are divided into the following categories: administrative support and commitment; adequate research information; cooperative efforts with the state department of education, local school districts, and community resource people; college staff inservice; adequate delivery systems; adequate funding to provide staffing, materials, and program development; planning and evaluation; and provisions for coordination and articulation of programs within institutions. Under each principle is listed a series of short descriptions of activities based on the experiences of consortium members and a set of indicators of an effective program in which career education concepts have been effectively infused. These principles, activities, and criteria are designed to be useful in program review and evaluation as well as in program development. Appended are abstracts of project reports; guidelines for preparatory program accreditation in career education; a bibliography; and revised syllabi. (See CE 019 260 for the final performance report of this statewide effort to infuse career education into teacher, administrator, and counselor preparation programs.) (BM)
