Suggestions for Integrating the Arts into Curriculum
Daniel, Vesta A. H.; Stuhr, Patricia L.; Ballengee-Morris, Christine
Art Education, v59 n1 p6-11 Jan 2006
This article is written by three faculty mentors involved in Transforming Education through the Arts (TETAC), a 5-year effort to help reform five public schools in Ohio by integrating the arts into the curriculum. In this article, the authors discuss how art education can play a significant role in the PK-12 curriculum; create more demanding curriculum through inquiry-based instruction and interdisciplinary study; plan collaboratively; connect learning with local communities, and; develop relevant assessment. Teachers and their students may find the suggestions that were developed through the TETAC project helpful when determining their own integrated curriculum. (Contains 4 endnotes.)
