Increasing Community College Enrollment When Everything Says You Shouldn't
Adams, Amy M.
College and University, v96 n4 p55-58, 60 Nov 2021
Historically, community college enrollment is impacted by the economy--the better the economy, the less students seek a community college education. The enrollment at Marion Technical College (MTC) in Florida generally has followed this trend. Prior to COVID-19, the economy in the United States was seeing unprecedented growth and, thus, MTC's enrollment was suffering. In the spring of 2019, the campus was projecting a double-digit decrease in fall enrollment over the previous year, a troubling projection to say the least. In May 2019, not only was MTC experiencing a challenging enrollment trend, the campus was operating without an admissions director and without a customer relationship management (CRM) system. Staff indicated that attracting 20 to 30 students to a one-day enrollment event would mean a success. So MTC created its own event. This article examines the planning and execution of MTC's Enrollment Express days.
