Follow-up of Ohio's Secondary and Postsecondary Vocational Program Completers. School Year 1981-1982.
Ohio State Dept. of Education, Columbus. Div. of Vocational and Career Education.
This study followed up 79,812 vocational job training completers and 316 vocational job training leavers in Ohio for the school year 1981-82. Data were gathered in January 1983 for the 1982 graduating class. The results of the study showed that economic benefits resulted from completing a vocational job training program. Even with the severely depressed economy, 83.9 percent of the secondary program completers available for work obtained jobs with only 16.1 percent being unemployed. The 16.1 percent unemployed vocational youth compared favorably to 23.9 percent of the overall unemployment attributed to age bracket 21 and under from the October 1981 through September 30, 1982 report from the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services. The 23.9 percent general youth unemployment is almost one-and-one-half times higher than the 16.1 percent reported for program completers available for work. The postsecondary and long-term adult program completers available for work had 89.5 percent working versus only 10.5 percent unemployed. For the same period, the Bureau of Employment Services reported the adult unemployment rate for January 1982 as 14.9 percent--4.5 percent higher than the 10.5 percent for vocational program completers. (The report includes in-depth analyses and computer breakouts of numerous data, including placement trends, average hourly wages, the Standard Occupational Classification System, employment status, employer follow-up, and state totals.)
