Ohio's Educational Assessment Program is briefly described, and extensive tables present the 1978 test results. The sampling design, test development, and setting of performance expectancy levels are discussed. Results are reported for the total test and for each objective. Comparisons between the average predicted, minimally acceptable, and desired performance level with actual performance are also presented for each objective. Total test scores are reported by sex, race, community size, socioeconomic status, and race by socioeconomic status. About 3,000 students participated. Major findings include: (1) In fourth grade mathematics, actual performance exceeded minimum expected performance on 27 of 31 objectives, exceeded predicted performance on 25 objectives, and exceeded desired performance on 9 objectives; (2) In twelfth grade mathematics, performance exceeded the minimum for 35 of 41 objectives, exceeded predicted for 35, and exceeded desired on 10 objectives; (3) in twelfth grade science, performance exceeded the minimum on 29 of 37 objectives, exceeded predicted for 21, and exceeded desired for 4 objectives; and (4) in twelfth grade English composition, performance exceeded minimal levels on 3 of 5 objectives, exceeded predicted on 3 objectives, and exceeded desired on one objective.
