Evaluation of the Scottwood Plan.
Luckey, Evelyn
The Scottwood Plan is an instructional and organizational innovation involving block scheduling with extended class periods, increased emphasis on creative arts, teacher specialization, and team planning across subject areas. Participating in the Plan, which was put into operation during the 1970-71 school year at Scottwood Elementary School, were 181 5th and 6th grade pupils, along with their teachers and the school staff. The report includes an assessment of student achievement during the year and an evaluation of the program by participating students and their parents at the conclusion of the pilot program. The report first presents an overview of the Scottwood Plan and describes its objectives and instructional and organizational features. It next describes the procedures used to assess student achievement and those used by parents and students to evaluate the program. A final section presents a discussion and a summary of the results.
