Integrating Print and Electronic Resources: Joyner Library's "Pirate Source"
Nall, Clark; Lewis, Janice Steed
Acquisitions Librarian, v17 n33-34 p107-120 2005
Valuable information in print is often neglected because of the rapid proliferation of electronic resources and the bias of many library users against print sources. At Joyner Library, it was decided to construct an interactive subject guide database that included resources in all formats to offer users a convenient starting point for research and to encourage use of neglected resources. The resulting database is called Pirate Source (http://www.systems.lib.ecu.edu/piratesource/) and is designed to allow flexibility in the addition of subject areas and resources by multiple contributors. In Pirate Source, the user can limit results according to the type of information sought and by online and in-library resources. The database has proven successful with the user population and library personnel, and is heavily used by patrons, at public service desks, and in bibliographic instruction. (Contains 3 figures and 10 resources.)
