An Investigation on Teacher Retention and Teachers' Perceptions of Cultural Leadership in Selected North Carolina Year Round and Traditional Elementary Schools
Council, Ve-Lecia Selene
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Fayetteville State University
The purpose of this study was to investigate teacher retention and teachers' perceptions of cultural leadership in select North Carolina elementary year round and traditional elementary schools. The participants in this study were North Carolina elementary teachers that participated in the 2008 North Carolina Teacher Working Conditions Survey giving their perceptions of working conditions in their schools. The survey provided preexisting data that was analyzed based on five working conditions that were correlated to the North Carolina School Executive Cultural Leadership Standard: (a) collaborative work environment (b) school culture (c) the school's acknowledgment of failures and celebration of accomplishments and rewards, and (d) teacher efficacy and empowerment. It is hoped that the outcomes of this investigation may provide valuable information concerning cultural leadership, teacher retention and the ability for school executives to increase teacher's decision to remain in the profession.
