Confusion and frustration can often accompany local school boards of education and facilities designers who attempt to meet classroom facilities needs pursuant to North Carolina legislative requirements when building or renovating schools. This booklet identifies a number of procedures, regulations, and agencies associated with the construction of school facilities and provides information that can expedite logical and efficient planning. As facilities planning progresses, sections cover what may be required during each phase of the project from design development through to completion. The appendix contains a directory of North Carolina state agencies related to procedures for the design and construction of public school facilities and contact personnel, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
