Phenomenological retrospective interviews of three female school counselors who had experienced burnout were conducted and analyzed for themes in an effort to understand the participants' personal meanings. Several common themes that emerged from the data analysis are discussed, and recommendations for practice and research are suggested.

Schmidt, John J.; Osborne, W. Larry – Elementary School Guidance and Counseling, 1982
Surveyed 100 North Carolina elementary counselors and compared the results with earlier studies. Describes school situations and the role and function of counselors. This sample contained more women than men, and was younger and less experienced than earlier groups. Generally low levels of anxiety were found. (JAC)
