Presents the collective judgments of a group of academics from North America, Southeast Asia and the Arabian Gulf region, as well as leading practitioners from the Arabian Gulf region, about the content of graduate degrees in information studies. The participants generally agreed about the content of the curriculum of information studies. The most important competencies that need to be covered in the curriculum included: knowledge of information theory, information use and users, the social context of information, information needs, ethics, information resource development concepts and processes, information organization and processing, information searching and retrieval, access services, automation and networking, Web design and searching, research capabilities, planning and evaluation, human resource skills, and communication. These findings can be used as a framework for curriculum revision and design. (Contains 2 tables and 1 footnote.)
