The purpose of this quantitative, correlational study was to understand the relationship between a balanced scorecard, professors' job characteristics, and the leadership styles of higher education leaders at Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti State, Nigeria, which was the site of the study. The problem statement addressed whether or not a relationship exists between balanced scorecard and professors' job characteristics as mediated by the leadership styles of the higher education leader as reported by professors at Ekiti State University in Ado Ekiti State, Nigeria. The theoretical foundation of the study was transformational and transactional leadership styles, and the research questions of the study were as follows: (a) To what extent, if any, does the leadership style of the higher education leader mediate between the balanced scorecard and professors' job characteristics? (b) To what extent, if any, is there a relationship between the leadership styles of the higher education leaders, balanced scorecard, and professors' job characteristics as reported by the professors? Based on analysis of data from 475 instructors at the Ekiti State University, it was found that (a) the leadership style of higher education leaders did not mediate between the balanced scorecard and professors' job characteristics; and (b) job characteristics did not correlate with balanced scorecard, and balanced scorecard did not correlate with leadership style. These results suggested the absence of meaningful relationships between professors' workplace impressions and leadership. Also, recommended that further study should examine the impact of demographics and leadership more closely, particularly in light of covariates.
