Families, Ways, Places: An Ethnic Studies Model for the Primary Grades.
Gilbert, Janet; Hotchkiss, Jacob
This guide provides material for introducing ethnic studies in the early elementary school curriculum. The publication can be appropriately used at more than a single grade level. The first section, a manual for pupils, examines the everyday lives of two cousins in two Sicilian communities. The experiences of a third cousin, living in an ethnic community in Brooklyn, New York, are also described. Customs, folkways, and lifestyles are introduced and related to the pupil's own experiences. Numerous photographs and maps are included. The second section, a guide for teachers, lists the educational objectives, strategies, and activities which are associated with the student manual. (Author/RLV)
