New York State's School Library Evaluation
Jaeger, Paige
School Library Monthly, v28 n8 p8-10 May-Jun 2012
The New York State's School Library Media Program Evaluation (SLMPE) rubric provides a window of opportunity for a librarian to talk with his/her administrators about library program elements that may be out of the librarian's control. There are three areas of focus on the SLMPE Rubric: (1) Teaching and Learning; (2) Building and Learning Environment; and (3) Empowering Leadership for Learning. Each area spotlights program elements. Most librarians in New York have been required to review this SLMPE document with their administration and get a signature. It has opened doors of discussion, enlightened the eyes of building principals, and helped librarians set goals. In this article, librarians share how they were intimidated and helped by using the SLMPE rubric to evaluate their library program.
