Crossing the Student/Teacher Divide at the Community College: The Student Tutor Education Program (STEP)
Werner, James V.
Teaching English in the Two-Year College, v35 n4 p363-371 May 2008
This article describes the Student Tutor Education Program (STEP) at Westchester Community College, which identifies and recruits potential future college English teachers at the community college level while they serve as peer writing tutors, with benefits to the entire college community as well as the teaching profession in general. STEP enables undergraduate students who are thinking about becoming future educators to get a behind-the-scenes look at higher education, and even have a chance to try their hand at teaching on the college level, while working as tutors in an English course.
