A Multiple Case Study Analysis of New York School Superintendents and School Board Presidents and the Essential Components of an Established Working Relationship

This qualitative research study was completed to understand better the essential components of an established partnership between the school superintendent and the school board president. A targeted group of New York school superintendents and school board presidents from school districts were interviewed. The participants answered questions on what is working and why it is working regarding the essential components of an established working relationship between the superintendent and school board president through roles, experiences, relationships, and their impact on the day-to-day operations throughout the school district. Additionally, questions were focused on background or ongoing experience regarding training that school board presidents have completed. The research question focused on: (1) What are the essential components of an established working relationship between the school superintendent and school board president? This study addresses the superintendents and school board presidents of New York State school districts, focusing on the essential components of an established working relationship. The superintendent and school board president's leadership roles, experience, and relationship will analyze what makes it work.
