New Jersey High School Graduation Standards.
Education Law Center, Inc., Newark, NJ.
The paper sets forth New Jersey high school graduation standards, including the exceptions for special education and limited English proficiency students. General requirements are described under three topic headings (sample subtopics in parentheses): (1) statewide basic skills requirements (the formulation of the Individual Student Improvement Plan, procedures for appeal); (2) minimum curriculum requirements for grades 9-12 (local options for additional requirements); and attendance requirements. Exceptions for limited English proficiency students are noted. The role of the Individualized Education Programs in determining graduation for special education students is explained. The paper concludes with a review of parents' and students' rights to notification and appeal. (CL)
