Identification of Unexpressed Premises and Argumentation Schemes by Students in Secondary School.
van Eemeren, Frans H.; And Others
Argumentation and Advocacy, v31 n3 p151-62 Win 1995
Reports on exploratory empirical investigations on the performances of Dutch secondary education students in identifying unexpressed premises and argumentation schemes. Finds that, in the absence of any disambiguating contextual information, unexpressed major premises and non-syllogistic premises are more often correctly identified that unexpressed minor premises. Concludes that teaching argumentation is needed to foster development of argumentation skills. (PA)
