To assess the status of and need for vocational-industrial education within Jefferson county, and to provide a more objective basis for program and curriculum development, data were gathered on (1) employment opportunities within the labor market area, (2) student interests in vocational-industrial education, and (3) the financial potential of the local school districts and Jefferson College to support a program of vocational-industrial education. Based on the analysis and interpretation of the above data, several conclusions were reached: (1) The scope of vocational-industrial education in Jefferson appears inadequate in relation to the critical need for industrial workers and the needs of the 75 percent of high school graduates who did not attend college or receive any vocational training in high school, (2) Jefferson College appeared to be in a better financial position than the high school districts to provide an adequate program within Jefferson County, and (3) For post-high educational programs, such as medical technician, professional nurse, and engineering technician, students will most likely enroll at Jefferson College.
