This report provides data concerning the racial/ethnic composition of Michigan's elementary and secondary public school students and staff. The data on students were obtained by asking teachers to estimate the racial/ethnic compositions of their classrooms, utilizing the categories American Indian, black, Asian American, Latino, and white. Information presented in the report includes (1) ethnic distribution of public school students from 1970-71 to 1975-76; (2) number of students by ethnic group by school building level (elementary, junior high, high school, and other) in 1974-75 and 1975-76; (3) geographical location of minority students; (4) racial separation of students by building level and between districts; (5) comparison of minority composition of student and staff populations; and (6) ethnic composition of students and professional instructional staff in each of Michigan's school districts.
