The Summer School beginning the second year of the three-district, cooperative project was administered by the Saginaw, Michigan, Intermediate School District. The program had two objectives: to field test three curriculum packages dealing with Woodland Indian Social Studies-Language Arts, and to "provide for the special needs of Indian students for cultural awareness, enrichment, and recreational/social activities." Sixty-three students in grades K-8 and a staff of 12 participated in the program. Evaluation of the first objective by reviewing the modifications and additions to the curriculum packages and by classroom observation revealed that development of the packages was well underway. Evaluators studied objective referenced test results and parent questionnaires to determine that a performance standard was met only one third of the time for the second objective. Ninety-five percent of the parents responding to the questionnaire were satisfied with the summer school program. Evaluators recommended a review of performance standards, modification of test items and procedures, and continued curriculum revision.
