This document is designed to assist school personnel in the planning, development, and implementation of vocational assessment approaches for special needs students. The intended audience includes administrators, coordinators, counsellors, or teachers who are interested in designing vocational assessment procedures which maximize the use of existing resources within their school systems. Guidelines place heavy emphasis on integrating assessment procedures into ongoing curriculum. The manual is based on the outcomes of a Massachusetts Department of Education research project administered through the Bureau of Occupational Education. Work in this project was carried out in conjunction with Assabet and Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical Schools (in Marlborough and Upton respectively), and the 18 school systems which they serve. This project will be administered through the Bureau of Special Education during 1980-81, and will involve all, or most of, the Assabet/Blackstone school systems in the adaptation of its approach to local needs. As research evidence accumulates in these practical situations, it is planned that this preliminary manual will be expanded and revised to accommodate new findings.
