Retention and Graduation Rates at Maryland Public Four-Year Institutions.
Battaglini, Janis K.
This report contains information on the retention and graduation patterns of full-time undergraduates at Maryland's public four-year colleges and universities from 1981 to 2001. It looks at the number and percentage of students who were retained at their original public four-year campus and those who graduated from any senior public college or university in the state. The second-year retention rate of all full-time, first-time undergraduates, as measured by the percentage of those returning to their original campus after 1 year, was 82.6% for the 2001 cohort. This is the highest retention rate achieved since Maryland began collecting these statistics in the late 1970s. The retention rate of African American students trailed that of other groups. The 6-year graduation rate for the most recent cohort of all new full-time students was at an all-time high at 59.3%. The 6-year graduation rates for African American and Hispanic students were significantly below those of Whites and Asians. Data are also provided on retention and 6-year graduation by institution (Maryland public colleges and universities). (Contains 7 figures and 57 tables.) (SLD)
