Governor's Commission on Teacher Salaries and Incentive. Report to the Governor.
Maryland Governor's Commission on Teacher Salaries and Incentives, Annapolis.
This report contains specific recommendations from the Commission on Teacher Salaries and Incentives for the State of Maryland. It is recommended that salary levels for teachers should be comparable to those of other professions and there should be greater equity of salary levels among the 24 jurisdictions in the state. In delineating incentives for attracting and retaining competent people into the teaching profession, it is recommended that state-funded development programs be initiated to enable all school systems to establish an active, high quality, professional growth program geared to the specific needs of their teachers. Recommendations are made for study grants and loans for teacher education and alternate paths to certification. Increased business and community involvement are also recommended. (JD)
