Establish Postsecondary Preparation and Expectations for All
Hyslop, Alisha
Techniques: Connecting Education and Careers (J3), v82 n6 p43-45 Sep 2007
First in a yearlong series, this article will more closely examine the recommendations made in Association for Career and Technical Education's (ACTE's) postsecondary reform position statement. The first recommendation is to establish postsecondary preparation and expectations for all. Throughout the country, and in each individual community, education leaders must ensure that all students exiting high school receive some level of postsecondary education and training, and that those adults who have already exited the education pipeline receive additional education and training to ensure continued career advancement and success. The author highlights Kentucky's Go Higher campaign, a prime example of the success that can be achieved when a state or local community raises its postsecondary expectations for all individuals. By developing a series of targeted marketing campaigns to engage adults in postsecondary education and training, Kentucky is achieving success in raising lifelong learning expectations and expanding opportunities for prosperity across the state.
