Non-Sheltered Employment for Severely Handicapped Students. Program Handbook.
Smith, Harland D.
This handbook is intended to assist vocational instructors in replicating the program to provide non-sheltered work experience to severely handicapped individuals. The first section is a description of the original program that was developed through the coordinated efforts of staff from three vocational schools in Kentucky. Included in the next section are guidelines for organizing workstations, procedures for identifying job training stations, task analyses for 23 jobs that were developed at 8 sites during the original project, and checklists of the abilities that each of the sites required of entry-level students. The third section discusses making community contact and developing incentive programs for employment. Information concerning evaluation of the original program is provided in the fourth section. (Appendixes to this handbook include a sample parent letter, insurance information form, photo release, transportation waiver, workstation training agreement, and birth verification form as well as a storyboard for a slide presentation.)
