An overview is given of the higher education system in the state, and a statement of its principles made. The determination of university mission is outlined, giving the characteristics to be included in the statewide system in its comprehensive planning. Mission statements are presented for: the community colleges; Kentucky State University; Eastern Kentucky University; Morehead State University; Murray State University; Northern Kentucky University; Western Kentucky University; the University of Louisville; and the University of Kentucky. Close cooperation is encouraged between the state institutions and the independent colleges and universities. (MSE)
