Origin of Enrollments Accredited Colleges and Universities. Fall Semester 1973.

The Origin of Enrollments presents a geographic distribution of undergraduate and graduate students and those classified as first-time freshmen for the 42 accredited colleges and universities in Kentucky. A geographic distribution of total high school graduates by county is recorded. A percentage of high school graduates by county attending college for the first time is recorded and also the percent of county population enrolled in Kentucky public and private higher educational institutions. For the fall of 1973, Kentucky shows an overall enrollment increase of 4.6 percent over 1972. The state-supported colleges and universities experienced an increase of 6.1 percent. The independent colleges and a decrease of 4.5 percent. First-time freshmen enrollment statewide increased 1.02 percent over 1972. The state-supported colleges and universities shows an increase of 1.03 percent while in the independent colleges and universities decrease occurred. The number of Kentuckians enrolled as first-time freshmen at the 42 accredited colleges and universities was 41.4 percent of the high school graduates for 1973. This compares to 41.8 percent attending college in 1969, the first year which this information was gathered. Researchers studying the economy and other branches of state government use this information as a basis of long-range planning. (Author)
