Adding Up Marginal Gains: Using Lesson Study to Make Micro-Improvements in Teaching Year 8 How to Use Sources
McConnell, Tony; Daley, Davinia; Levy, Rebecca; Waddell, Lisa; Waddington, Richard
Teaching History, n189 p8-22 Dec 2022
A highly distinctive and structured approach to teacher development, Lesson Study emerged in Japan but has since been adopted much more widely and now sees growing interest in the UK. Tony McConnell, Davinia Daley, Rebecca Levy, Lisa Waddell and Richard Waddington describe the process by which their school first investigated and then adopted Lesson Study. Newcomers to Lesson Study will therefore find this article a very useful beginners guide. McConnell et al. narrate their own experiences as novices. They chart the journey by which Lesson Study came to fascinate them, both in the pedagogic insights that it yielded and as a tool for their own development.
