Assessment of 125 fourth graders in Japan found that 4 boys and 4 girls qualified as dyslexic, challenging the belief that dyslexia is largely absent among Japanese children. Generalized future expectancies of personal life success (optimism) and failure (pessimism) were examined in a cross-sectional study, with Japanese fifth- through ninth-grade students (n=584).
