Student and nonstudent protest in Japan and the Soviet Union are compared through analysis of protest demonstrations along several contextual, behavioral, and outcome variables. Uniformity in structure is hypothesized to derive from similar characteristics in the countries. Research and policy development implications are discussed. (MSE)
