Effects of Verbal and Vocal Cues of Counselor Self-Confidence on Clients' Perceptions.
Barak, Azy; And Others
Counselor Education and Supervision, v27 n4 p355-67 Jun 1988
Examined role of counselors' manifest self-confidence on clients' perceptions and explored contribution of linguistic and paralinguistic cues to perceptions. College students (N=124) listened to audiotapes of counselor dialogue varied by counselor linguistic and paralinguistic self-confidence. Found that vocal, but not verbal, cues of self-confidence were related to client perceptions of counselor expertness, attractiveness, trustworthiness, and associated satisfaction. (Author/NB)
