This 10-unit volume dealing with historical events in Indonesia is used in the advanced phase of the Indonesian Basic Course for United States military personnel. The objectives of the course are: (1) to relate the significant history of the area, (2) to expand the student's vocabulary, and (3) to develop the student's linguistic skills. The ten units cover: (1) The Prehistoric Period; (2) The Hindu-Buddhist Period; (3) The Spread of Islam; (4) The Arrivals of the Europeans; (5) and (6) The Dutch East Indies; (7) The Japanese Occupation; (8) The Early Years of Independence; (9) The Decline of Constitutional Democracy and the Birth of Guided Democracy; and (10) The Fall of Sukarno and the Birth of the New Order. Student assignments and a Bahasa Indonesian/English glossary accompany each unit. (PMJ)
