Lifelong Learning: The Value of an Industrial Internship for a Graduate Student Education
Honda, Gregory S.; Pazmino, Jorge H.; Hickman, Daniel A.; Varma, Arvind
Chemical Engineering Education, v49 n4 p195-200 Fall 2015
A chemical engineering PhD student from Purdue University completed an internship at The Dow Chemical Company, evaluating the effect of scale on the hydrodynamics of a trickle bed reactor. A unique aspect of this work was that it arose from an ongoing collaboration, so that the project was within the scope of the graduate student's thesis. This enabled successful completion of the work. Additionally, the contacts made were of benefit to all parties.
