The Integration of Biology into Calculus Courses
Comar, Timothy D.
PRIMUS, v18 n1 p49-70 Jan 2008
This article discusses the incorporation of biological content into existing calculus courses without significantly changing the courses. This is exemplified by the common laboratory course taken by students in all first semester calculus courses at Benedictine University. Several biologically oriented projects are implemented in this laboratory course. We provide short descriptions of several biologically oriented activities which are used in courses at Benedictine University. We conclude the paper with analysis of early assessment data we have collected on the usage of the biologically oriented laboratory projects in the common laboratory course at Benedictine University. The data indicate that this approach is successful. (Contains 8 tables and 2 figures.)
