Exploring How Iceland's Physical Geography Impacts Daily Life and Energy Use
Law, Tracy
Geography Teacher, v16 n1 p29-30 2019
While students generally understand how humans impact their physical environment, it can be challenging for them to explain how this key geographic theme is "bidirectional." How does the land influence the people and vice versa? This exchange is what creates a sense of place for every spot on our planet. Being so physically and culturally isolated in a land characterized by both fire and ice, Iceland's interaction between its human and physical geographies provides many excellent examples. This lesson plan describes the following activity: Using questions and video clips as prompts, students explore how the unique physical environment of Iceland impacts the area of energy use.
