A report with tabular presentations of tuition and fee charges for full-time, full-year attendance at public institutions of higher education in 15 western states and for resident out-of-district and nonresident students at two-year institutions offers the following highlights: tuition and fee charges for students at public institutions in the west continued to increase in 1989-90; for resident in-district students at two-year institutions, the full-time tuition and fee charges averaged $729 in 1989-90, a 6.4% increase over the previous year, and $793 for resident out-of-district students at two-year institutions, a 7.0% increase; for resident students at public four-year institutions in the west, undergraduate tuition and fees averaged $1,382 in 1989-90 and graduate tuition fees averaged $1,596, a 7.8% and 9.8% increase respectively; and there is a continuing pattern of increases in student tuition and fee charges that exceeds the level of general price increases.
