Effects of Interactive Discussion and Text Type on Learning Counterintuitive Science Concepts.
Alvermann, Donna E.; And Others
Journal of Educational Research, v88 n3 p146-54 Jan-Feb 1995
This study examined whether students could learn counterintuitive science concepts by reading and discussing ideas. Ninth graders read texts, answered questions, then completed control activities or engaged in scaffolded discussions. Students who read expository text and students who participated in scaffolded discussion performed better than those who read narrative and answered questions on it. (SM)
