Rural, Urban, and Community Development. A Major Occupational Group in the Public Service Cluster.
Gwinnett County Schools, GA.
Part of a course designed to acquaint high school students with basic information concerning careers in public service, this student guide is one of nine (each with accompanying teacher's manual) which constitute a course entitled "Orientation to Public Service." Focus in the units covered by the guide is on rural, urban, and community development, one of eight major public service occupational groups included in the course. The student is introduced to the field in general, the job families within it (community action, planning, building and zoning, and land acquisition), and the worker qualifications and employment outlook for each. Contents are divided into several units of reading and related activities, some designed for completion independently, some by groups. (The accompanying teacher's manual is CE 013 672. The total course is the first of a series of three developed as a comprehensive approach to vocational skill development in public service for Georgia high schools. Also available is a guide for the whole four-quarter program, Applied Program of Public Service, CE 013 652.) (JT)
