Marcos Gayol
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Aspen University
This study investigated public health nurses' perceptions regarding an information management training program at a for-profit nursing agency in South Florida. Despite mandates from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, HIPAA, and the Institute of Medicine to incorporate informatics in healthcare, research on its impact on productivity and efficiency remains scarce. This research aimed to understand how the training influenced nurses' sense of productivity and efficiency. Grounded in theories of change, adult learning, and constructivism, the study involved nine public health nurses who participated in the training. Data were gathered through interviews and open-ended qualitative questionnaires and analyzed using QDA Miner® with a constant comparison method to identify core themes. Findings revealed that participants effectively integrated new information management technologies into their practice, enhancing their productivity. However, there were notable gaps in the training model, indicating room for improvement to achieve a more substantial impact. The study underscores the importance of refining training approaches to optimize the application of informatics in public health nursing. Recommendations for enhancing training quality and effectiveness are provided to better support nurses in utilizing informatics to improve their work efficiency.
