Evaluating Afterschool: The Latest Research on the Impact of Afterschool and Summer Programs
Afterschool Alliance
Afterschool and summer programs offer a multitude of benefits for students and families across the nation, from providing tangible resources like wraparound services to connecting students with supportive adults and peers. These programs not only deliver immediate benefits, but research also shows they bear long-term positive effects on students' educational and life trajectories. This brief includes findings from more than three dozen studies and reports highlighting outcomes associated with young people's participation in afterschool and summer programs, including increased school engagement, reduced chronic absenteeism, enhanced academic performance, and improved mental well-being.
