Charter and Traditional Schools: "An Analysis of Student Entry and Movement," 2021-22 to 2022-23. Evaluation Matters. Volume 12, Number 1
Steven M. Urdegar; Kareem D. Piper
Office of Assessment, Research, and Data Analysis, Miami-Dade County Public Schools
Charter schools have continued to draw an increasingly larger share of the students in Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS), such that as of October 2022, 24.6% (n=82,635) of the District's students attended a charter school (Urdegar, 2022). This growth can be accounted for by examining changes to the proportion of the students enrolled at the charter and traditional schools in M-DCPS resulting from the withdrawal of students leaving the District, the entry of students new to the District, and/or student movement into and between the schools. The primary purpose of this report is to examine the entries into and transfers between charter and traditional schools from October 2021 to October 2022.
