Career Education and Secondary Language Arts: A Study of the Nature and Extent of the Integration of Career Education and High School English Programs in the State of Florida.
Heath, Margaret Eleanor
This study attempted to identify the factors which have had significant influence on English teachers' attitudes and practices concerning the inclusion of career-education concepts, activities, and materials in high school English programs in Florida. Utilizing a stratified random sample, the study sampled 325 English teachers, at 45 of the 203 senior high schools in 42 of the 67 Florida counties. Among the findings, it was discovered that English teachers were moderately in favor of integrating career education with English; 61% of the participating teachers were involved in elective programs, which should have allowed flexibility for incorporating new concepts and materials such as career education; and school encouragement, area, and funding influenced teacher response.
