Development Police Training and Education in Florida. LEAA Grant 350 Final Project Report.
Headlough, Warren E.
The Florida State Standards Council was created by the Florida Police Standards Act (1967) to improve the state's training program. The adoption of mandatory 200-hour recruit training has provided a program which is meeting local needs for more and better trained law enforcement recruit personnel; there is need for the development and establishment of programs in law enforcement supervision and management. Eighteen junior colleges offer associate degree law enforcement programs; one-year certificate programs are offered by some. Representatives of junior colleges and law enforcement agencies have suggested a core of knowledge in nine law enforcement areas for structuring certificate and associate degree programs. Inservice and educational programs are needed to build and expand the framework of a total program for the state. (Appendixes include the 1967 Florida statutes, the rules of the council, and the recommended programs.) (NL)
