A Cross-Cultural Analysis of Transition from School to Work. Reports, Studies...S. 132.
Bingham, William C.; And Others
This document, intended for use by guidance professionals and educators, examines basic vocational guidance issues pertaining to the transition from school to work in a cross-cultural context. The introductory chapter, "A Perspective on Transition from School to Work" (William C. Bingham), provides a conceptual framework for examining guidance practices as they relate to the transition from school to work. Following this, current practice in each of five countries is described in separate chapters: (1) "Vocational Guidance Services for Transition from School to Work in Canada" (D. Stuart Conger); (2) "The Buddha and the Computer: Career Guidance in Taiwan of China" (Martin R. Katz); (3) "Preparation for Work in Colombia" (William C. Bingham); (4)"Vocational Guidance in Greece: Change in the Midst of Tradition" (Niki Tzavella); and (5) "Vocational Guidance in the Cote d'Ivoire" (Annie Perrier). In the final chapter, "Cross-Cultural Analysis and Synthesis" (William C. Bingham), the five country descriptions are brought together for a direct examination of the similarities and differences between them. Appended are a discussion and study guide, suggestions for the training of guidance workers, and a list of Canadian publications on vocational guidance in English and French. A list of 107 references is included. (TE)
