Manitoba Reading Assessment 1985. Final Report.

Based on an integrated approach to reading instruction, this report of the 1985 Manitoba Reading Assessment includes a reading survey test, with an individual measure of listening-speaking and oral and silent reading performance, a reading interest inventory, and a teacher questionnaire. The 1985 Assessment also re-administered selected items from the 1980 Reading Survey to a representative group of students at each grade level. The document reports on all aspects of the 1985 Reading Assessment in Manitoba. Chapter 1 presents a number of models of the reading process; chapter 2 describes the relationship among listening, speaking, and reading competencies. The third chapter outlines the development of the testing measures, while the fourth chapter presents the results of the assessment. Chapter 5 interprets the results, and chapter 6 offers recommendations. Four appendixes contain (1) a teacher questionnaire; (2) tasks and results for listening-speaking; (3) comparison results; and (4) ratings from an interpretation panel. (MS)
