National Association of Independent Schools, Boston, MA.
This report is compiled from information provided by National Association of Independent Schools member schools in a 1986 survey of school tuitions and staff salaries. Of the 900 schools in the United States and Canada that were surveyed, 853, or 94.8 percent, responded. The report is organized in five sections. Section 1 summarizes survey results from 1985-86 to 1986-87 on median school tuitions; tuition increases from 1977-78 to 1986-87; median teacher salaries, 1985-86 to 1986-87; median administrator and staff salaries and housing benefits, 1986-87; median school head salaries and housing benefits, 1986-87; and median assistant head salaries and housing benefits in 1986-87. Tuition fees in 1986-87 for girls' schools, boys' schools, and coeducational schools by grade, and geographic area are presented in section 2. Section 3 details teacher salaries by school type and area, and salary ranges. Information on administrator and staff salaries in 1986-87 is discussed in section 4, including salaries for school presidents, school heads, business officers, admission officers, deans of students, athletic directors, librarians, and department heads. The final section provides data from Canadian schools for 1986-87 concerning tuition fees and teacher and administrator salaries. The report offers 35 tables of data and a glossary of terms. (CJH)
