This study obtained information about the factors which cause stress for 406 teachers in Nova Scotia and determined possible differences by sub-groups. Noteworthy differences were found by size of school, gender, experience, type of school, administrator/non-administrator, and a few by license category. Results indicated that one teacher in four is likely to find "disruptive students" to be very stressful, and student attitude and school discipline were also strong stress factors. Other major "very stressful" factors concerned time, paper-work, and size of class, as well as discipline policy and lack of administrative support. Teachers were most satisfied with their role of teacher in "seeing students grow", but were least satisfied with student attitude/performance, public attitudes, discipline, administration and paperwork. Teachers indicated that they would most like to see changes providing smaller classes, improved physical facilities and equipment, improved schedules with more time for planning, and improved administration.
