THE PURPOSE OF THIS DOCUMENT IS TO DISCUSS THE PROBLEMS INVOLVED IN THE OBSERVATION, PRACTICE, AND CRITICISM PHASES OF PRACTICE TEACHING IN THE LANGUAGE TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM, AND TO GIVE AN ACCOUNT OF THE PROPER USE OF VIDEOTAPE IN THE MORE EFFICIENT AND LESS TIME-CONSUMING PERFORMANCE OF THESE ACTIVITIES. AFTER PINPOINTING THE PROBLEM OF OBSERVATION AS ONE OF BEING ABLE TO PRESENT THE TRAINEE CONSISTENTLY WITH GOOD LANGUAGE TEACHING MODELS AND THAT OF TEACHING PRACTICE AS ONE OF LIMITING THE TEACHING UNIT TO A PERIOD OF TIME RATHER THAN TO A BOOK LESSON, THE ACCOUNT JUSTIFIES, IN GENERAL TERMS, THE FEASIBILITY OF USING VIDEOTAPE TO PRESENT THE BEST MODELS OF THE MOST EFFICIENT TEACHING MODULES IN THE TRAINING OF LANGUAGE TEACHERS.
