Analyzed attitudes toward persons 65 years or older. Found five factors used by both young and older groups to describe the social image of the older person: integrity, fortitude, social appeal, dependability, and open-mindedness. Reports results of a 1984-85 study involving 261 Canadian undergraduates and their degree of sympathy for victims in each of 20 world disasters.
